Site-Based Mentoring
In site-based programs volunteers, age 16 and older, mentor children and meet weekly at a designated site location such as a school, community center, or business.
Matches always meet at the site. Like the community-based program, site-based matches are made on a one-to-one basis and relationship building is still the focus. Site-based matches are encouraged to plan and participate in mutually determined games and fun leisure activities that are facilitated by BBBS Program Staff within the site location.
For the upcoming 2026-2027 School Year we are currently recruiting Bigs for After-School Mentoring Programs on WEDNESDAYS from 3:30-5:30 PM at sites located in L'Anse, Ironwood & Houghton.
Site-Based Mentoring is approached as a collaborative model in which Big Brothers Big Sisters partners with youth-serving organizations and other community-minded groups to deliver mentoring programs throughout the community.
Each group determines the specific guidelines for its contributions to the program, whether they provide volunteer mentors, children to participate in mentoring, and/or a facility to house the mentoring sessions.
Ongoing Support
With guidance and ongoing support from Big Brothers Big Sisters, church groups, service organizations, fraternities, sororities, and businesses can deliver mentoring programs within their organization. The mentoring collaborative provides a creative and safe environment for children and volunteers to meet and establish ongoing relationships.
