What We Do
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Western Upper Peninsula provides mentoring services to youth throughout Michigan's western Upper Peninsula as an Affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
Our unique brand of one-to-one mentoring, in which a child facing adversity is carefully matched with a caring adult mentor in a relationship supported by the professional staff at Big Brothers Big Sisters, changes lives. Big Brothers Big Sisters offers a variety of mentoring programs in our community.
What We Achieve
One-to-one matches between Bigs and Littles truly empower youth and strengthen communities. Professional staff from Big Brothers Big Sisters carefully build and support each match and ensure it meets the strictest standards. We strive for matches that are not only safe and well suited to each child's needs, but also harmonious and built to last.
Research shows mentoring works. Children who connect with a caring and consistent mentor learn more; they are doing better in school; they achieve more; they are more likely to avoid negative influences, and they have healthier relationships with their family and peers. An additional caring person in a child's life can make all the difference in helping young people find and follow their passion, strive in school, and thrive wherever they are. This translates to a real impact in our community. Mentoring relationships are powerful tools for connection and are critical to building a brighter future for us all.
